Clinical

Our philosophy includes a variety of treatment modalities utilized to help each student achieve a higher level of functioning, to diminish symptoms, and to help students become productive members of their families and communities. Our approach is to utilize the most appropriate modalities for each student and family given their individual circumstances. Rather than limit our clinical staff to one treatment approach or philosophy, we will utilize the most effective and appropriate treatment strategy to obtain optimal results. Each student will receive quality care addressing their individual and family needs. Modalities utilized include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and behavior therapy. In addition, medications may be utilized when appropriate to enhance treatment and reduce symptoms. We use a multi-disciplinary team approach which involves therapists, recreational therapists, teachers, residential staff, psychiatrists, and nurses. These professionals work together to coordinate structured treatment programs designed to address the specific needs of each student, including chemical recovery and vocational needs.

Logan River Academy has three major areas that work in concert to provide an effective program for each student. These three are: Clinical Services, Educational Services and Residential Services. Logan River Academy strives to create a balanced approach between these areas to serve the unique and individualized needs of each student.

Clinical Services

As your child enters Logan River Academy, a primary therapist is assigned. This person will be your contact person throughout your child’s stay. Please feel free to contact the therapist at any time if you have questions or concerns. All our therapists have masters or doctorate degrees and are licensed in their clinical areas. Your therapist will provide individual, family and group therapy for your child. Other therapists will also provide group therapy for your son or daughter.

Master Treatment Plan

Based on the individual needs of your son or daughter, a Master Treatment Plan will be developed to guide treatment at Logan River Academy. The Master Treatment Plan is created with input from you, your child, your educational consultant, appropriate mental health professionals working with your child, and the assessments completed at Logan River Academy (psychiatric, psycho-social, medical assessment, recreational assessment, and vocational assessment). The Master Treatment Plan is a dynamic tool which identifies specific treatment areas and lists goals for each of these areas. It will be reviewed with you and your child upon its development.

Types and Frequencies of Therapy

Logan River is committed to meeting the therapeutic needs of each child. The Master Treatment Plan will guide the best combination of therapies for each student. Logan River offers individual therapy, family therapy, substance abuse group therapy, process group therapy, and various theme group therapies. Theme group therapies may include adoption issues, thinking errors, anger management, family issues, relationship issues, meditation etc. Not all of these theme groups are offered at all times. They fluctuate based on need. Experiential and Recreational therapy may be used in all of the above therapies.

Psychiatric Services

Everyone enrolling at Logan River Academy will receive a psychiatric assessment from a licensed psychiatrist. This will include a DSM diagnosis. Based on this assessment and the ongoing observations of the psychiatrist and treatment team, the frequency of appointments with the psychiatrist will be set. This may be every two, four, or six weeks; it may not be at all if your child does not need psychotropic medication. Like all clinical services, this is designed to meet each individual’s needs; not a predetermined schedule.

Visits

Visits from family are an important part of the therapeutic process. The clinical needs of the child and the family guide the treatment team’s recommendations for visits. Visits generally progress from on-campus, short off-campus, extended off-campus, local overnight, overnight, and home. Visits should contribute to your child succeeding at treatment goals and not be simply diversionary or recreational. That is not to say you should not have fun. Having fun as a family is very therapeutic. Each visit will have goals that relate to the treatment plan.

My son has been clean and sober for 2 years, 7 months. He learned so much at LRA. He learned to recognize his inattention, his need for attention and his need for excitement and channel all of that in positive ways." "LRA worked wonders for our son. I think it allowed the distance from home and the perspective he needed to change his self-destructive behaviors. Staff was tremendous in identifying the issues and creating change." "Although we still have our issues with him, I find them to be more of the same issues that my other friends have with their young adult children and since he has returned from LRA, I no longer worry about his reckless behavior that was a constant in our lives."
