Margaret Oak, LMFT, Admissions Director
Margaret is LRA's Admissions Director. She brought her clinical experience and double-jointed thumbs to begin working with Logan River Academy families in October of 2004 as a therapist. Margaret began early working with families in a variety of settings, including child abuse prevention, early childhood education, community literacy efforts, multicultural initiatives, gerontology studies, and child care initiatives.
Throughout her school years, she participated in various performing groups and has sung and danced all over the U.S. and Europe, even appearing on ESPN. Margaret worked with the Sexual Offenders Research and Treatment team during her undergraduate education and was published in her senior year.
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Human Development with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, she lived in Italy for a few years where she soaked up the culture and gained a love of Italian life and language. Margaret later earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Her internship experiences included work with victims of violent felonies and later with a general outpatient population at a family support center.
These practicums afforded her opportunities to gain experience in pioneering work with trauma and women’s issues, as well as family dynamics and other relational challenges. Margaret has enjoyed working with adolescents and their families to chart a new course toward satisfying and healthy family systems and lives while confronting specific struggles with behavior, substance issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, adoption issues, etc.
She has also appreciated the opportunity to sit on many regional and state policy and legislative boards to improve the delivery of services to families in her area. She remains active in the community as an educator, teaching parenting classes and working with local churches, organizations, and municipalities to assist teens and their families as they progress through life’s challenges.
Margaret chairs the Cache Valley Literacy Coalition, which organizes an annual Literacy Festival at which thousands of children are rewarded for achieving their reading goals.
She has lived in Alabama, Washington, California, Idaho, Italy, and now dabbles with decorating, gardening, entertaining, and remodeling in her Logan, Utah home. She also loves to travel, throw pasta parties, and spend time with her family.
