At Logan River Academy we have an overarching philosophy that we call the Principles-Based Model. This model is based on the 5 Principles for Effective Living: Honesty, Respect, Accountability, Fairness, and Caring. These guiding principles guide how we train our team, how we work with our students, and what we expect our students to learn while here. We believe that as a student learns, incorporates, and internalizes these principles, they will find great success. Within this model, we utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Terapy (ACT), EMDR, and Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT) as guiding therapeutic modalities. The Principles-Based model provides an atmosphere where our students learn and utilize CBT, ACT, and DBT skills, while incorporating the 5 Principles for Effective Living into their lives.
A level system incorporating seven levels is utilized to help model society. The beginning levels are somewhat explicit with the higher levels being more ambiguous. This approach models society and helps students achieve greater self-confidence and the ability to make choices on their own without needing constant supervision or prompting to stay on task.
Each staff member of our Residential Services Department is fully trained and certified in CPR, first aid, management of aggressive behavior (MAB), adolescent growth and development, and all other necessary skills. Prior to hiring, staff members are subjected to screening and background checks to make sure they are appropriate for employment at Logan River Academy. The staff members of our residential treatment facility are carefully selected in order to have individuals who maintain a personal life style consistent with Logan River Academy’s goals and have a desire to be positive role models for our students. We are aware of the responsibility we have in respectfully caring for each student and creating a helpful and healing process for growth.
