The Achieve Program

Logan River Academy offers specialized services to meet the unique needs of our students. Within LRA, a new program, the Achieve Program, is designed to prepare neurodivergent teenagers for life after high school.

This program will serve students aged 12-16 (17-year-olds will be considered based on program availability) with an IQ, General Abilities Index (GAI), and Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI) between 65-71. Students in the Achieve Program benefit from a 1:3 support ratio in classrooms, groups, and dorms, focusing on strengthening social, executive functioning, and self-advocacy skills.

To provide specialized and comprehensive support for our new program serving neurodiverse teenagers, including those with ASD 2, we are collaborating with a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This expert consultation will support our therapists and staff in addressing the complex behavioral, social-emotional, and clinical needs of these students. The Achieve Program is now accepting students!

Program Overview

Therapy

Many of our students are clinically complex. We offer individual, group, and family therapy for our students. We have a team of highly qualified, passionate, and licensed therapists to meet the clinical needs of our students. Each therapist carries a small caseload of students to ensure the highest quality of care possible. Our therapists provide individualized treatment to help our students reach their goals.

Academics

Students at Logan River Academy come with a variety of academic issues and need varying levels of academic support. We find that most have not had a good experience with school and for one reason or another have had a recent pattern of academic frustration and failure. Our school is staffed with teachers who are prepared to meet the individual learning needs of our students and help them discover academic success.

Community

The Achieve Program places an emphasis on serving and being a positive part of our community. Through service, cultural events, adventure learning, leisure, and going to an off-campus gym our students have many opportunities to expand their horizons and learn better social skills.

The Achieve Program Experience

Our therapists are highly skilled in working with students with a wide range of presenting issues including:

  • Executive Functioning deficits
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Screen Addiction
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Social Skills deficits
  • Adoption/Attachment issues
  • Mild Substance Use

This is a specialized therapeutic program designed to provide superior treatment for students struggling with the issues listed above. We use the ESSENCE model (Executive Functioning, Sensory, Self-care, Emotion regulation, Communication, Empathy). We also use a variety of evidence-based models including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). We also emphasize exercise, nutrition, community service, and mindfulness. Our dedicated team works to help the students in an individualized way.

Our dorms are structured, predictable, and consistent. Our highly trained therapists and mentors help to coach, process, and problem-solve. Our goal is to balance school, skill building, work, therapy, and leisure through structured and predictable schedules and activities. Each student works closely with our staff mentors who provide additional training and mentoring throughout their stay. Staff mentors work with students on a daily basis on areas such as hygiene, cleanliness (e.g. laundry) LRA’s 5 principles, school performance, and other goals that are appropriate for the student. Mentors work closely with students’ therapists to assist in improving the areas of focus.

Our students enjoy frequent and consistent off campus activities and remain active in our community. Our students also have paid jobs on campus and earn minimum wage.

Our fully accredited school runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The school atmosphere has a realistic and traditional feel with a variety of built-in accommodations. Our class size is small, and our instruction is through multiple mediums. We closely track our students progress in the classroom. We have several special education teachers, accommodate IEP’s and provide a specialized academic environment to assist our students towards high school graduation.

We use the ESSENCE model as our guide to treatment and focus on these core issues:

E

Executive
Functioning

S

Sensory

S

Self-Care

E

Emotional
Regulation

N

Navigate
Relationships

C

Communication

E

Empathy

We develop individualized treatment plans to specifically address the needs that each student has in these seven domains. A phase system provides ongoing feedback for the student, as well as a concrete method to help them to reach their goals.
